Dana Messmore, RD, LDN

NUTRITION SPECIALIST, INTEGRATIVE DIETITIAN

  • Dana is a Registered Dietitian with experience working in outpatient nutrition counseling with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She received her Bachelors in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of North Florida and completed her dietetic internship through Bastyr University in Seattle, WA with a concentration in natural medicine and whole food nutrition. Her formal education was not her introduction to using food as medicine. Growing up she witnessed her mother be “her own best healer” putting her autoimmune disease (scleroderma) into remission/stabilized by using her intuition that drugs were not going to heal her-- for 35 years she focused on a whole food diet, yoga, stress management, connecting to nature, sleep, self-care, and the power of positive thinking to radically change the outcome of her condition. Dana fully believes in the power of food as medicine but she also believes the integration of spirituality, movement, trauma healing work, mental and emotional wellness, having a healthy relationship with food/our bodies/ the environment, and basic self-care is vital for optimal wellbeing and making sustainable changes. She is an anti-diet dietitian that supports an intuitive eating approach to nutrition and promotes medication reduction (when appropriate and with physician guidance) through nutrition education and getting to the root cause of blockages to behavior change.
